The charm of early American samplers and portraits

Antrim House
This canvas was painted by our very talented French artist, Michele and is a copy of an 1807 sampler embroidered  on linen and with silk thread by Mary Antrim, a New Jersey school girl.
This charming farm scene set a record when it was sold in 2012 at Sotheby's, New York for over one million dollars.
The Pilkington Family
The Pilkington Boy is painted on gauge15 and is, strangely enough,  easy to embroider.
The stillness and serious expressions of the characters in the picture give a sense of order and calm which is very pleasant.
The Pilkington Girls
We have just started embroidering this companion to the Pilkington Boy.
We are planning to use a fun stitch for the sky in a soft grey silk to add texture to the design.
Based on an 18th c English painting,
We like to imagine that Abel and Isaac are whiling away the hours playing cards while  waiting for their ship to take them to America.
The design is on gauge 15.
Gold metallic highlights will enhance the gilt mirror and furniture.
